Sale 48 Wharfedale 16

WHARFEDALE conceded 27 unanswered points as Sale ran out comfortable winners.

The result leaves The Greens as the bottom of the table National Two North table and in need of a lift.

The first half had been evenly fought with Wharfedale only 21-16 down at the break and in contention.

Just like the previous game against Sheffield Tigers they were unable to respond when their rivals upped their game.

Sale’s first try was set up by Aaron Reed. He fielded a ball deep in his own half and broke through tackles to set up an attack which resulted in Jonny Rawcliffe scoring and Chris Johnson adding the extras.

Tom Barrett kicked a penalty in reply, but the Sale forwards responded by setting up a converted try for Tom Allen.

Wharfedale hit back almost immediately when winger Oli Cicognini pounced on a long pass and ran under the posts. Barrett’s conversion reduced the deficit to 14-10.

Minutes later, the gap was one point after a Barrett drop goal.

Another break by Reed set up Tom Allen for a converted Sale try before a Barrett penalty concluded the first-half scoring.

Johnson opened the second half with a simple penalty before the forwards drove over with, Neil Briggs being given the touch down.

A sublime Johnson chip was collected by Chris Mayor for a fine try before the rout was completed with Chris Owen finishing off good handling move. Johnson converted both to finish with a perfect record.
