THE recent growth in popularity of walking football has given older generations the chance to take to the pitch again and a Skipton initiative is giving locals the opportunity to rediscover the thrill of scoring a last-minute winner.

The outdoor artificial pitch at Sandylands Sports Centre is holding two sessions for males and females over the age of 50, one on Sunday, March 25, between 9am and 10am, and the other on Monday, March 26, between 12pm and 1pm.

Both sessions will be available for free, and after that they will be held weekly, costing £5 each time. Attendees do not need to book in advance, and are simply required to bring along a bottle of water and a pair of trainers.

The sport is intended to keep participants fit and healthy, but the club is keen to promote the social aspect of the sessions too, with an emphasis on a fun and friendly environment.

The initiative is supported by NHS Craven Medical, Craven Council Sports development officer Bruce Dinsmore, Sandylands Sports Centre and the West Riding FA.
