Silsden 5 Holker Old Boys 0

Silsden are celebrating a title win as Danny Forrest led the club back into the top tier of the Hallmark Security League as Division One champions.

The former Bradford City and Guiseley striker was an unused substitute as his side romped to a 5-0 home win in their final fixture to lift the crown.

They ended the campaign four points clear of Litherland REMYCA, the only club that could have denied Silsden.

The home side broke the deadlock after just 14 minutes. Reece Kendal headed them in front, either side of chances for Chris Wademan and Luke Rhodes.

The rout didn’t gather pace until the hour mark when Arley Barnes found a way through the Holker back line for a second time. Nine minutes later a through ball found Sultan and he netted the third, superbly chipping the visiting keeper.

The fourth was emphatic as Aiden Kirby’s thunderous drive crashed in off the underside of the bar and Kirby wrapped it up when he slotted in the fifth when one on one with the Holker keeper.

In the final analysis Silsden would have won the title even if they hadn’t beaten Holker as REMYCA dropped points in their final game. The runners-up were winning 1-0 at half away at Prestwich Heys, but the third placed side hit back in the 57th minute to draw 1-1.

That left REMYCA on 99 points while Silsden had banked three figures before the Bank Holiday game. The Cobbydalers finished with 103 points and their rivalry with REMYCA will be rekindled in the Premier Division next term.

The Liverpool outfit took to social media to pass on their good wishes, saying “Congratulations to Silsden on their title win. We enjoyed the chase, see you next season.”
