SAM Smith carried on his outstanding run of success by becoming Yorkshire under-15 boys fell champion at Holmfirth.

The West Nab race was the fourth English championship counter and the South Craven School student has already secured his place as champion with two races still to go.

The Wharfedale Harriers runner has won three races and come second in one so can not be beaten.

Smith claimed gold after holding off the challenge from second-placed William Hall of Calder Valley and Keighley & Craven's James Sadler-Townsend who was third.

The Keighley & Craven club enjoyed a successful day which produced two gold medal winners.

Phoebe Midgley took the title in the under-13 girls race with Amelie Lane of Wharfedale second and Ilkley Harriers' Erin Doyle, third.

Eric Beaumont followed up his win at Sedbergh in the previous week's BOFRA race by winning the under-17 boys race.

Beaumont finished ahead of Settle's Sebastian Segger-Staveley and Joe Carnelly of Bingley who were second and third respectively.

Lilli Carr of Keighley & Craven held off her Skipton Girls High School colleague Emily Jones to take second place behind Ilkley's Bernadette Raven in the under-17 girls event.

Wharfedale's Alice Jones was third in the under-15 girls race.

Keighley & Craven runners also featured prominently in the non-championship races.

The boys also performed well with Oscar Timbers coming third in the under-nine boys race while Archie Peaker and Ewen Wilkinson were second and third in the under-11s.
