THE Yorkshire Ladies Veteran’s team travelled to Wolverhampton for the one-day County team event with newcomer Carole Uttley, of Steeton, stealing the show.

It was the latter who took the honours as the team reached the final only to lose by 11 points against Warwick and Worcester.

Uttley won four out of her five games as the team defeated Dudley, North Warwickshire, Merseyside and Lancashire before the final defeat.

The Yorkshire Ladies comfortably defeated Burton in a County match where local reps Sharon Gadd and Viv Abell had mixed fortunes. Gadd just lost by three but Abell bounced back to form with a 21-13 success at Swadlincote Catholic Club.

Also further afield, Richard Hargreaves just failed to reach the last eight of the Hillcrest Classic losing 29-31 in round four, while David Scott, of Silsden, reached the semi-final of the Dobbies SC event losing out to the experienced local, John Bailey, the eventual winner of the event.

The remaining local hopes in Yorkshire events were defeated last Saturday in wet conditions.

Settle went out to Burley Park at Crowghyll, while Oxenhope just went down to Wakefield Thornes at West Bradford.

A special mention to Myrtle Park who have reached the last eight of the mixed team event, the Hutchinson Trophy, after a tremendous victory over past winners, Glasshoughton.

It is the turn of the Skipton Ladies to be in action on Sunday in the Yorkshire ABA event for the Inter-District event at West Park Bradford from 10am where they are grouped with the locals and the West Riding and will have to be in top form to progress.
