TED Mason enhanced his reputation as the master of all the Wharfedale Fell races, as he won at Buckden Pike, beating defending champion, Ilkley Harriers' Jack Cummings, into second place.

Going up the initial steep ascent, Wharfedale Harrier Mason took the lead and was looking promising, as he is a renowned master of descent.

He was still leading at the summit, with Cummings chasing hard, while Wharfedale's Sam Watson moved into third place.

By the time the runners came into view of the gala field, Mason had built up a good lead and as he went down towards the beck, he once more demonstrated his downhill prowess.

Cummings was being caught by Watson on the notorious final descent, but he had enough a lead, and finished six seconds in front of his rival to come second.

After a strong performance in this race, Wharfedale carried off the men's prize with Mason, Watson and Tom Millard,

The ladies race was more spread out with Helen Wood of Ilkley Harriers taking a comfortable victory. However, a very strong performance from Vet 50 Jean Powell saw her see off the competition and come home in third place.

Another good performance in the Vet 50 category was from Wharfedale Harriers runner Andy Holden.

He started the race right at the back, but gradually worked his way through the pack, picking off runners one by one and he ended up, not only with the first V50 prize, but with a top ten finish to complete a remarkable effort.
