JOE Hudson will have painful memories from winning a team gold medal with the England under-20s in the Junior Home Nations Mountain Running Championships in Ireland.
The Ermysted’s student was having a great race and was leading when he slipped and fell on his descent which led to him sustaining a deep gash to his shin.
It meant he couldn’t complete the race and later had to have ten stitches inserted in the wound.
His team-mates did a good job in his absence. They filled the top three positions with Bingley Harriers runner Matthew Merrick taking first place.
Joe’s younger brother Louis came home with a team silver in the under-17 race. He finished sixth as England were beaten to gold by a strong Scotland team. Keighley & Craven’s Eric Beaumont was 17th.
Skipton Girls High School’s Lilli Carr gained a team bronze medal after finishing eight in the under-17 girls race where she was her country’s second counter. Her school colleague Emily Jones was 12th.
