Luke Turner, of Eastburn’s Jai Freestyle Martial Arts and Fitness Academy, won his pro-am fight against a German opponent Rene Stark with a knock-out after just 24 seconds.
The first round win came courtesy of a kick to the head. The fight was at a show hosted by Siam Camp, in Oldham.
Luke will travel to Thailand in March for the world amateur championships as part of the england team.
Jai Freestyle’s coach Robin Shepherd is the England team manager and he has helped to put the squad of 20 fighters together, The championships will have over 60 countries entering and will be held in the national stadium in Bangkok.
Luke was part of the England team in 2008 when he competed in the Princes Cup competition in Bangkok. Then he beat a fighter from Singapore to earn a bronze medal for England In the 2007 world championships, the Eastburn gym had success with Vicky Lakin winning the silver medal, and at the 2007 European Championships in Spain Ben Molloy won gold for England.
Luke’s fight record is currently six wins and one loss from seven fights. His loss was at the Princes Cup in Bangkok to a stadium-ranked Thai with over 200 more fights than him.
Of Luke’s seven fights, four have been international with him facing two Thais, a Singalese and a German.
Luke defeated Ben Seddon (Chok Dee) by a headkick knock-out; defeated the Singapore champion in a tournament in Bangkok with a knock-out punch; lost to Wongsawad Jutsunrang of Thailand; defeated Curtis Ramsay (Spartan) by a knee knock-out; won on points against Ekkaphan Chasiabi (Grand Master Sane) of Thailand and against Ian Robinson (Hanuman) before finally beating Rene Stark of Germany with a headkick knock-out.
Luke has been training in Thai boxing for 14 years and has represented England on three occasions.
