Cononley Juniors, who will play at U-15 level, are among four new clubs who have been admitted to the Craven, Aire & Wharfe Junior Football League. They were voted in by a 48-2 majority at the league’s annual meeting at Salts Sports Club.
League secretary Mike Breeze said: “Cononley Juniors U-15s will recruit from their village and no objection to them has been raised from Cross Hills Junior Football Club.”
The three other clubs voted in were Bramley Phoenix, Ventus United and Manningham FC.
The league’s management committee recommended acceptance of all four clubs, with Breeze saying: “Bramley Phoenix play at Pollard Lane, Leeds, and they are not adjacent to any member clubs.
“Ventus United U-15s will be based at Dam Lane, Yeadon, and were under the Bolton Woods banner previously, while Manningham FC U-12s and mini-soccer teams will play out of Challenge School.
Two clubs were rejected in Bradford Academy-based Challenge Juniors, and Leeds Maccabi, who play out of Roundhay Park.
Breeze said: “Maccabi wanted to join at U-12 level but we foresaw travelling problems - for example, it is a 65-minute trip each way for me to get there from Silsden - and therefore we recommended a refusal as it was outside the periphery of our league.
“Challenge Juniors are based at Bradford Academy in East Bowling but we understand they would have taken players from Sedbergh Crusaders and Bradford Tigers and are a commercial organisation under Mark Senior’s banner and therefore we recommended a refusal.”
Yeadon-based league fixture secretary Olwyn Watson was made an honorary life member of the league.
The new season will be from September 13 to April 30.
