Batsmen ran riot and teams produced some very high scores as the top of the First and Second Divisions crashed to defeat.
Altogether there were 18 centuries in the five divisions. With the half-way point of the season reached, all the divisions are up for grabs.
Haworth Road, leaders of the First Division, faced a tricky game at Oakworth, who themselves are looking to home in on the title. The Cure Hill side went first and were dismissed for 125 in 33 overs. Michael Scarborough top scored with 44 as Mansha Khan took 5-38 off 11 overs and Shami Ali 4-29 off seven overs.
The Baildon Bottom side were under the cosh from the start and lost wickets regularly to stand 71-7. Rirwan Mushtaq offered some resistance with 33, which helped the score to 91 where two wickets fell and the last one went at 97.
Richard Linden, one of the conveyor belt of youngsters coming through, took 4-15 off 8.1 overs and Mark Beckett finished with 4-34.
Cullingworth took full advantage of the slip up as they annihilated Haworth on their own patch. Losing their first wicket on one, the Roydwood Terrace side blasted 274 for the second wicket as Gareth Marshall, in the runs again, made 146no and Steve Welch 106. The innings closed on 283-3. The Bronte side’s reply was a shambles as they slumped to 83 all out - a defeat by 200 runs - which included 43 from Ben England.
Dia Moseley took 3-13, Dave Robinson 3-16 and Dave Hall 3-22.
Embsay entertained Bradley and, for the first time in many years, lost to the South Craveners. The Shires Lane side were going very well at 93-2 then skipper Duncan Ward was dismissed and the innings lost its impetus. The innings closed on 167 with Rhys Davies top scoring with 36, Stephen Speak making 23 and extras adding 33. James Heseltine bowled well to finish with 4-42 off 14 overs.
The visitors were always there or there-about but lost two wickets at 140 to set alarms bells ringing. Neil Robinson came to the fore and, with 41no, guided his side home by two wickets with 13 balls to spare.
Glusburn’s early promise appears to have gone off the boil. They travelled to Crossflatts and were knocked over for 123. Ryan Brooksbank, with 51no, guided the homesters to the points by four wickets.
Thornton lifted themselves out of the bottom two when they saw off visitors Sandy Lane by 33 runs in a high-scoring game. The home side amassed 222-4 in the overs with Jack Laycock (63no) and Rob Foster (65no) putting on an undefeated 136 for the fifth wicket. The Greenwood Park side had a good go at reaching their target but fell 33 short. Luke Ellis continued his good form with 58 as Jason Lockley took 3-68 off 13 overs.
The battle of the basement saw Cononley and Cowling swap places after the latter did a Houdini act. The former had racked up a fine 214 with Jonathan Smith making 61 and Tom Stead 59 as Steve Richardson took 5-38 off 11 overs. Cowling lost two wickets for nine then Mike Dudley (103no) and Richardson (96no) took their side to the winning post in the 40th over, with an undefeated 209 for the third wicket.
Leaders of the Second Division, Bingley Congs travelled over the border to face third-placed Pendle Forest and it turned out to be a cracker of a match. The Beckfoot side had first go and rattled up 214 in their innings with skipper Chris Dibb top scoring with 68 and Tom Hayes scoring 55. The Fence side made a stuttering start before Andrew Townsend, with 57, pulled things around then Kevin Lyons took things on for them to stand at 183-8. J Heron (24no) and skipper Pete Hakin (19no) saw the red rose side to the points by two wickets with just three balls to spare. Adie Dibb toiled away for 22 overs to finish with 3-100. Long Lee took the opportunity to close within two points as they saw off Wilsden by three wickets at Golden View. On winning the toss the visitors elected to bat first and, at 124-2 with plenty of overs to go, looked to be heading for a big score. However, Mark Day removed the settled T Peirson for 60 and G Stableford for 37 and they hobbled to 171 as Jamie Robinson took 5-59 off 14 overs.
The homester’s innings followed a similar pattern and they were cruising at 102-1. Then wickets tumbled before Matt Taylor with 91no helped his side stagger over the line. Alan Broadley made 33 and Dave Collins took 3-38.
Chatburn lost out on keeping in the top three as the crashed by nine wickets at home to Ingrow St John’s. The red rose side had John Reynolds (48) and Andy Booth (39) to mainly thank for their 184 - this after being 8-3. Colin Bottomley finished with 4-29 and Imran Mehrban 3-41.
The Saints reply was stunning as Jonathan Green and Sami Farooq took the bowling apart and put on 129 for the first wicket before the former was bowled for 55. Farooq continued and reached his century just before the target was reached in the 33rd over. He finished on a splendid 102no which included 18 fours and one six.
Skipton CI made a moderate 146 at Hainworth with Albert Brennan making 50 and John Drake 37 as Chris Herbert took 5-27. The former then had to leave the game with a suspected broken foot. Ingrow lost seven wickets reaching their target in the 43rd over. Adie Parker made 40 as Drake finished with 3-50 off 21 overs.
Sutton were also over the border at Foulridge and batting first posted 187 with Hamir Shazad making 66 as Chris Brooker-Carey put in a fine effort with the ball to take 8-72 off 19 overs. After losing a wicket without a run on the board M Gildea (47) and J Lickess (62) took the score to 118, and then a timely 42no by new recruit Greenville Thompson saw the Noyna side to the spoils by three wickets in the 42nd over.
Glusburn IIs must have nightmares about playing at home as groundsman Rummy Smith produces such superb batting tracks. Saturday was no exception as the Park Field side piled on 222-5 with Paul Barker (107no) and evergreen Phil Taylor (52) putting on 133 for the first wicket. Visitors Barrowford also enjoyed themselves on the strip as they scorched to victory by eight wickets in just 40 overs. John Ormerod (104no) and Nick Burton (88) put on a match winning 155 for the second wicket.
The top two in the Third Division both won high-scoring games. Haworth WE entertained Cowling IIs and smashed a staggering 360-4 off their attack. The highlight was a blistering 137 from Andy Parker, supported by Joe Alvey, Tinashe Gomwe (51), Callum Jones (47no) and Joe Bottomley (44). The ageless Steve Dalby made 91 as the visitors replied with 173.
Riddlesden rattled up 210 off visitors Haworth Road IIs with R Jain scoring 49 and Nasser Kamal 47 as Richard Gill claimed 7-74. Jain followed this with 6-56 as the Baildon Bottom side were dismissed for 169.
Oakworth IIs are in third spot after seeing off Denholme by 100 runs with Nivard Trowers hitting a superb unbeaten 124.
Ingrow St John’s leap-frog Embsay IIs after the pair met at Street Lane with the Saints getting home by three wickets.
Airedale move level with Embsay IIs after they beat Long Lee IIs by 55 runs at Bradford Road. Nadeem Zaman plundered a boundary-littered 87 with Paul Feather (66) and Matthew Cox (60) being the other main contributors to the home side’s 248-5. The first three batters for the Golden View side started positively but after them there was not a lot to shout about. Jan Haider made 53, evergreen Joe Gordon 38 and Mohammed Gulnawaz 34 as J Richardson claimed 6-54 and Cox 4-55.
Tom Cowburn was the star of the show for Gargrave as they beat visitors Barrowford IIs by 108 runs.
The home side clattered 271 with Cowburn’s contribution being a fine 111. He followed this with 5-32 off 15 overs as the Bull Holme side were dismissed for 163.
It was top against bottom in the Fourth Division with leaders Eldwick & Gilstead blasting 318-7 with Danny Pearson scoring a superb 110 and James Keighley 73. Only Adrian Ratcliffe (60) and Craig Ogden (32) offered much resistance as Haworth IIs replied with 135.
Cononley IIs clung on to second spot by the skin of their teeth. Visitors Ingrow IIs, chasing 235-7, wanted five off the last over with the last pair at the crease.
They could only add two to go down by three runs. Neil Kennedy with 4-75 and 69 was the main contributor for the losers whilst Matthew Beer (68), Euan Scarr (67no) and Matt Hayes (7-103) did the business for the winners.
Pendle Forest IIs are joint third with Crossflatts. The Fence side visited Cullingworth IIs and returned home triumphant by 92 runs.
Meanwhile, Crossflatts IIs were handing out a thrashing to Bradley IIs on their own midding. The visitors hit a mammoth 294-3 in their innings with Lee Bailey smashing 19 fours and two sixes in a fantastic knock of 127no and Brian Freimanis joined in with 87. The home side slumped to 100 all out in just 19 overs.
Chatburn IIs journeyed to Wilsden IIs and rattled up 242 in their innings led by a solid knock of 110 by N Hutchinson who together with G Wadsworth 49 put on an opening stand of 165.
A King took 6-41 then followed this with 55 to help the Windy Row side to 183 in reply.
In a basement clash Sandy Lane IIs beat Airedale IIs at Greenwood Park and the two swap places at the bottom of the division. S Hunter (56no) and Nick Ahad (48) saw the Keighley side to 173-5. However, Steve Brown with 118no helped the hom side to the points by six wickets.
It was first, Riddlesden IIs, against second, Oakworth IIIs, in the Fifth Division and by winning by 74 runs the Stockbridge side move six points clear at the top. Danny Spencer (77), Dale Pinkerton (58), Richard Bennett (45) and Saswar Kamal (39) were the backbone of the home side’s 281-8 with J Geldard taking 4-32.
In the reply of 207-7, Marshall Peddar scored 55, Ben Fothergill 45, veteran Jon Hollingsworth 42 and A Fothergill 34.
Level on points with Oakworth IIIs are Haworth WE IIs, who suffered a hammering at Sutton IIs. Paul and Gary Williams recorded the ninth highest opening stand in league history when they put on 238 for the first wicket.
The former made 103no and the latter 110no. The Bronte side crashed to 65 all out with only Craig Belshaw (29) and the 16 extras reaching double figures. Chris Vollentine took 4-7 and Christian Paulett-Brigg 3-13.
Bradford and Bingley IIIs recorded their fourth victory of the season beating Thornton by eight wickets at Bronte Fields.
Pendle Forest IIIs beat Eldwick and Gilstead IIs by 63 runs and Bingley Congs IIs accounted for Little Marsden by four wickets.
Finally Gargrave IIs 14-year-old Will Stanley took 6-42 as visitors Denholme IIs were dismissed for 138. This was 34 too many for the homesters.
