It’s six of the best for Adil as leaders Bradley are beaten


Bradley’s lead at the top of Division One was cut to just two points following their 57-run defeat by fellow title chasers Crossflatts.

All seemed to be going well for the leaders when they restricted their rivals to a moderate 132 with Matt Simpson and James Heseltine taking three wickets each.

Crossflatts were boosted by a crucial innings of 34 from Farooq Akram batting at number eight.

For once Bradley’s batting faltered. They were hustled out for 75. Chris Capstick was the top scorer with 20 as M Adil claimed 6-15 off 6.2 overs.

That win and Cullingworth's surprise defeat at home to next to bottom Cononley allowed Cross-flatts to slip into second spot.

Tim Starkey made 34 as Cononley, despite the efforts of Chris Welch (6-51) made 133-9.

Cullingworth slumped to their second successive defeat, making just 76 as Colin Stead took 6-40 and Joe Stead (3-16).

Glusburn’s decision to put Bingley Congs in to bat backfired as Neil Copping blasted 102 from 66 balls.

His innings contained five sixes and 14 fours and helped Congs to a total of 213.

Evergreen Bryan Hollis finished with 7-99 off 21 overs.

In reply Michael Hebden scored 74 but found no one to stay with him as the innings closed on 152. Adie Dibb (5-47) and Copping (4-42) did the damage.

Embsay recovered from 80-7 to make 174-7 as they won by 86 runs at Cowling.

Has Haider and Duncan Bullough – making his annual appearance – led the recovery with an unbeaten stand of 94 for the eighth wicket.

Martyn Dalby finished with 5-56 and S Hassan (4-41) for Cowling.

The home side crashed to 88 as Scott Robinson took 7-40.

Division Two leaders Thornton defeated second-placed Barrowford by 47 runs.

The victory not only clinched promotion back to the top flight but also ensured the title for Thornton.

Batting first they made 211 with Jason Lockley blasting 60 and Kev Pollard (53) as Nick Burton took 5-44 and Danny Jones (3-79).

The Bull Holme side replied with 164-8 with David Hartley making 44 Riddlesden kept Sutton in bottom place as they beat them by 122 runs at Grange Road. The home side blasted 225-6 with Steve Ayres scoring a fine 88, N Kamal (46) and N Hussain (57no).

Sutton crumpled to 103 all out. Another junior Ben Simons top scored with 37 as Rishabh Jain claimed 4-19 and Hussain (3-19).

Chatburn’s game at Haworth WE was the one casualty to the weather.

Third Division leaders Embsay II suffered a 35-run home defeat against Denholme.

Skipper Adam Taylor (58) and Rob Taylor (41) shared an opening stand of 105 as Denholme made 181. Neville Allan took 5-63 and Jonathan Coward (3-81) for Embsay.

Embsay lost two early wickets and they on the backfoot for the rest of the innings which closed on 146 with Alan Pickles hitting 51.

Gargrave took the opportunity to go back to the top with a stunning ten-wicket victory at Cononley II.

The home side were blasted out for a paltry 32 with John Metcalfe taking 6-7 and the visitors sauntered home.

Airedale also move ahead of Embsay II after seeing off Glusburn II by 187 runs.

The Keighley side smashed 285-7 with Matthew Cox making 61, Paul Feather (60), Imran Nadeem (54) and Tim Crossley (48).

The highlight of the visitors’ bowling was a superb spell by 13-year-old Alex Horsfield of 7-95. His haul included three stumpings by James Banks.

The Park Field side were dismissed for 98 with Habib Aslam taking 4-47.

No batsman reached double figures as Oakworth II shot visitors Skipton CI out for just 45 with Greg Hudson taking 4-13 and A Smith (4-16). Oakworth galloped home in just 31 balls, to win by nine wickets.

Another table-topping side, Crossflatts II in Division Four, crashed to defeat against Bradley II.

Michael Clarkson (47) and Jago Bean (42) helped the home side to make 196.

The visitors then slumped to 0-3 off four overs and 5-4 off nine overs and never recovered.

They were dismissed for 82 with M Bentham making 34 as Peter Herbert (4-5) and B Winterburn (3-5) bowled impressively.

Luckily for Crossflatts II second- placed Cullingworth II crashed by 27 runs over at Barrowford II.

Ten-man Sutton II were re-stricted to 113-9 by Riddlesden II with James Marshall scoring 35 as Darren Shields finished with 4-44.

The Stockbridge side then folded for 89 with seasoned campaigner David Holdsworth taking 5-51 and Dave Clark (4-38).

Rod Booth (50) and Paul Kenyon 45 were the main contributors to Chatburn II’s total of 161-9 at home to Cowling II.

Then John Reynolds took 6-61 to dismiss the visitors for just 109.
