Crossflatts prove too strong for Cononley

Crossflatts consolidated their position at the top of Division One with an emphatic nine-wicket win over Cononley.

Despite a fighting 77 from Freddie Pearson, the South Craveners could only post 147 as Farooq Akram finished with 4-37.

Crossflatts cruised home with Amer Ayub making an unbeaten 58.

Second-placed Bradley defeated Glusburn by 87 runs at the Playing Fields.

Matt Buckmaster (49) and Neil Robinson (29) helped the home side make a total of 208-9.

In reply only M Desgranges (33no) and Bryan Hollis (27) offered much resistance as the innings folded on 121 – 22 of those being extras.

John Duffy (4-33) and James Heseltine (4-38) were the key bowlers.

Oakworth move up to fifth after a narrow victory at Embsay.

The Shires Lane side posted 208-7 with Duncan Ward scoring a magni-ficent 119no.

After a woefully slow over rate the innings was sportingly declared, which gave the Cure Hill side approximately 38 overs to reach their target because a point to each side was not what Oakworth wanted.

In the visitors’ reply Jack Hainsworth (79) and Robert Hopkinson (35) put on 75 for the first wicket which set up the chase.

Brannan Lawn added 43 and the target was reached for the loss of five wickets with three balls to go.

Division Two champions Thorn-ton encountered few problems at Sandy Lane.

They were presented with the trophy prior to the start of play then dismissed their hosts for 111.

Matthew Roberts made 25 as Marc Laycock claimed 3-34.

The champions cruised to a seven-wicket win with Rob Foster scoring 31 and Jack Laycock (29.) The fight for who goes up with Thornton looks to have edged slightly in favour of Barrowford who made the short journey to Foulridge and returned victorious by five wickets. Sutton snatched a vital three points over at Chatburn.

The Ribble Valley side made 137 with Neil Cartledge making 32 as Steve Doane took 4-52. Then Simon Doane hit 38no to guide his side home by 2 wickets as John Lockley finished with 4-55.

Those three points lift Sutton a point above Ingrow St John’s who drop into next to bottom spot after losing to Pendle Forest.

The Third Division is still a three horse race, but Embsay II in third spot increasingly look to be the side that is going to lose out.

The top two Gargrave and Airedale met at Skipton Road and it was the Keighley side who grabbed the points to take over top spot by a point.

Nadeem Zaman took 6-24 as Gargrave were hustled out for 85. Imran Nadeem made 38no to see the visitors home by eight wickets.

Embsay II looked to be in the driving seat at Oakworth II when the home side were 132-9.

But Adam Smith, who made 118no and Ian Jackson (31no) put on 85 for the last wicket as Stephen Speak finished with 5-87.

A fine bowling performance by Michael Davison (7-43), saw Embsay dismissed for 160 despite 58 from Speak. Eldwick and Gilstead are fourth – nine points behind Embsay.

There was a high-scoring game at Glusburn II where Ingrow St John’s II amassed 270 with A Khalid making 76, Amer Khan (62) and S Rehman (42) as Rummy Smith took 5-70.

Glusburn replied with a very respectable 245 led by Mark Johnston with 59 and A Banks with 46 as A Hussain took 6-50 off 14.4 overs.

The Saints second team will be hoping their first team can drag themselves out of next to bottom spot or they will automatically be relegated because first and second teams cannot play in the same division.

Cononley II are the side keeping Ingrow St John’s II out of the bottom two.

They are just a point behind the Saints following a four-wicket defeat at home to Eldwick & Gilstead.

Cononley made 174 with Charles Calvert hitting 71 and John Wade (31) as Danny Pearson took 6-47. D Hook with 47 was the backbone of the successful reply.

Skipton CI were in an uncompromising mood at Long Lee II. John Sharpe and Paul Mason put on 166 for the first wicket as their side amassed 358-4.

Sharpe scored a magnificent 139 to go with M Chisnall (41no) and S Davidson (33no). Skipton CI hustled the Golden View side out for 69 with Craig Boyd taking 6-32 and S Nawaz (3-28).

In Division Four, Bradley II were at Pendle Forest II and dismissed them for 90 with M Price taking 6-32.

The Fence side roared back and shot the visitors out for 80 with N Khan taking 5-35 and veteran Ken Halstead (5-41).

Chatburn entertained fellow strugglers Sutton II and beat them by eight wickets. Graham Monk (6-7) devastated the visitors as they crashed to 47 all out.

The Ribble Valley side cantered home in just 15 overs.

Wilsden II were at home to Cowling II and restricted the nine man side to 93, a total they passed for the loss of two wickets.

In Division Five, Skipton CI II beat Oakworth III by three wickets. Adam Fothergill (39) and Richard Huck (39no) helped the Cure Hill side to 165 as Sam Smith took 6-31.

Bruce Woodhouse made 50 to help the Sandylands side to victory.
