Flixton 2 Barnoldswick Town 2

10:39am Thursday 2nd September 2010

Town paid the price for missing their chances as Flixton snatched a late equaliser.

Both teams started brightly but it was Town who made the first opening after nine minutes.

Liam Blades put an excellent ball across the face of the goalmouth but Robert Grimes fired wide when well placed.

Flixton replied immediately and Billy Carrington had to to make a brilliant save.

Spencer Jordan wasted a glorious chance to score from inside the penalty area but a misunderstanding between the Flixton centre half and the goalkeeper allowed Grimes to nip in and score after 19 minutes.

Flixton replied immediately as the Town defence lost concentration.

A Flixton player ran 50 yards to collect a short corner, crossed to the far post where the ball was turned in.

Town regained the lead after 31 minutes. Stewart Airdrie closed down the Flixton left back, won the ball and took it to the goal ine.

His cross was perfect for Spencer Jordan who netted.

Flixton had the greater share of possession at the start of the second half as they tried to get back on level terms but goalkeeprer Carrington was seldom troubled.

Town were relying on counter attacks and Airdrie drilled a shot just wide of the far post after 70 minutes from the edge of the area.

Jordan fired over when clean through on goal after a good run before he was replaced by his brother Lewis for the final five minutes.

Airdrie tried his luck again after an individual run at the Flixton defence saw him with a clear shot on goal.

That was his last contribution to the game as he was replaced by Craig Bradshaw.

Town looked set to win until the Flixton centre forward latched on to a long ball before chipping the advancing Carrington.
