Barnoldswick Town 1 Rossendale United 1

Barlick had to settle for a share of the spoils in an eventful match which had a sending off and nine bookings.

Rossendale skipper Lee Kershaw was the man to receive his marching orders after 80 minutes for retaliation, but the home side could not cash in.

Town showed plenty of enterprise down both flanks in the opening minutes, and a quick attack down the Rossendale right saw Neil Chapman cross deep into the Stags' box.

Goalkeeper Tom Brocklehurst came out to collect the ball before Liam Blades could get on the end of it.

Town then had a scare when Shaun Clough was forced to headclear after a corner was hooked back across the face of goal.

Robbie Smith had a shot charged down before Billy Carrington was forced to make a good save when Rossendale counter attacked.

Right on half-time Chapman broke free when tussling for the ball on the edge of the penalty area. His fierce shot seemed destined to break the deadlock but Brocklehurst pulled off a brilliant save to tip the ball over the bar.

Rossendale took the lead after 52 minutes when a poor clearance from the Town defence put a Rossendale forward in on goal.

Carrington blocked the initial shot but Rossendale substitute Natahan Bond pounced on the rebound to score.

Town responded positively to the setback and levelled after 75 minutes when Stewart Airdrie cleverly pulled the ball back to the edge of the Rossendale penalty area where Robbie Smith hammered an unstoppable shot that hit the back of the net before Brocklehurst could move.

Try as they might, Town just couldn’t force the winner, Smith on two occasions just failing to keep the ball down when well positioned inside the penalty area.
