Skipton's Sandylands ground looks more like swamp lands
Upper Wharfedale were the only one of the four local teams to get into action on Saturday as the rain again devastated the league programme.
But they didn’t escape the clutches of the weather totally because play was abandoned when they were chasing victory over fellow Division Two strugglers Olicanian.
Upper Wharfedale were going well at 110-2 in reply to a challenging 216-4, when the rain struck.
James Starkey was 48 not out while opener Dave Eggleton made 42 in the truncated innings.
Olicanian owed their total to a fine innings of 113 from Chris Wheeler and 49 by Saj Ijaz.
Steeton were denied what looked likely to be an easy six points when their match away to bottom team was rained off.
The abandonment cost Steeton the top spot.
Collingham are the new leaders after an ominously comfortable win at fourth-placed Kirkstall.
Steeton will be hoping for better luck this weekend as they have two important home matches.
On Saturday they entertain fourth-placed Kirkstall Educational in the league, then they play hosts to Ben Rhydding in the semi-finals of the Waddilove Cup on Sunday.
Skipton’s Division Three home clash with Addingham and Silsden match at Menston were both washed out.
Skipton’s Sandylands ground was quite literally swamped by the huge amounts of rain that fell on Thursday night and Friday.
There were great areas of surface water lying on the outfield.
