Barnoldswick Town 3 Squires Gate 2

Town scored twice in the final two minutes to secure their first Premier Division win of the new campaign on Tuesday night.

It looked as if Squires Gates would repeat last season’s win at the Silentnight Stadium when they went 2-1 up with four minutes to play.

Seydou Bamba seized on a back pass from Liam Blades before unleashing a terrific shot past Marko Marosi.

Town were determined not to let the points slip away and equalised in the 89th minute when defender Bill Williams headed home from a corner.

Then in a reverse of last season when a last-minute goal won the spoils for the Gate, a Blades pinpoint cross found the head of Mark Threlfall who made no mistake.

Early in the game, Harry Thompson shot wide for Barlick while their goalkeeper Marko Marosi made a great save from former Town player Joe Shelmerdine.

Squires Gate’s pressure was rewarded when they took the lead after 37 minutes.

Bamba found Shelmerdine just on the edge of the Town six-yard box.

His first attempt was brilliantly saved by Marosi but the ball rebounded back to him and he easily scored.

Town’s equaliser came in the 56th minute after a mix up between the Squires Gate keeper Nathan Worrell and Thomas Bartlett. The ball fall at the feet of Threlfall who moved to one side before tapping in the equaliser.

Town continued to put pressure on the Gate defence and a great five-man move ended with Liam Garbutt volleying over the bar.

It looked like the points would be shared until those dramatic last four minutes.
