Oakworth out to heal old wounds in Wynn Cup final
12:01pm Thursday 9th August 2012 in Sport
Cullingworth skipper Steve Welch
This Sunday sees the Wynn Cup Final between Cullingworth and Oakworth at Gargrave (1.30pm).
This gives the Wide Lane side the opportunity to put the heartache of last year’s final, when they surprisingly lost to Foulridge, firmly behind them.
Oakworth have been members of the League since 1980 and in that time they have appeared in 12 finals – winning five times.
Their batting line up is impressive, if one or two fail there are another four to take their places.
Under skipper Joel Gallagher they are performing exceptionally well this year.
Jack Hainsworth is the rising star of the batting, with Paul Spragg, also dominating attacks. Behind these come Rob Hopkinson, Michael Scarborough and Adam Smith.
In the bowling Matt House is still a formidable opponent although he has been struggling recently to shake off an injury.
Steve Filkin has been leading the attack along with Scarborough.
Cullingworth are led by Steve Welch and have Josh Evans, Stuart Rogers as their main batsmen backed up by all-rounders, Chris Welch, Graham Rankin and Luke Taylor.
The bowling is led by Dave Robinson, Phil Poole and Sam Murphy.
This is Cullingworth’s third appearance in the final and they have a 100per cent record.
They have met Oakworth once in the final when they won 1-0 in the first ever bowl out after rain.
