Wharfedale began their preparations for the new National League One campaign with a strong performance in their first friendly on Saturday.

They got out of the traps quickly and encouraged their supporters with four first-half tries.

Wharfedale based their early dominance on powerful scrummaging and good work in the mauls.

The stream of good possession was appreciated by the backs who enjoyed the chance to attack with real purpose.

Centre Andy Hodgson and winger Simon Horsfall finished off good movesFront-rowers Chris Steel and Steve Graham also scored good tries before the break.

The second half proved was more evenly fought as Wharfedale introduced some of their younger squad members.

James Druce ran in the only try in the final 40 minutes as Wharfedale showed their defensive qualities to retain a decisive lead.

This weekend they play in the Boroughmuir Tournament at Edinburgh.
