Golden boy Andy Hodge with under-12 girls race winner Shona Hastings
There was a golden moment for the young competitiors at Monday’s Hebden Sports.
There to greet the winners of the under-12 fell race was Olympic rowing gold medal winner Andy Hodge who was making a quiet return to his home town.
Hebden’s sporting hero was resplendent in his Great Britain track suit and had donned a special pair of golden wellies.
He also had with him the gold medal he won at Eton Dorney in the men’s coxless fours.
Hodge’s presence clearly delighted the Wharfedale Harriers duo of Logan Hargreaves and Shona Hastings who won the boys and girls under-12 races.
To receive their medals from Hodge simply put a golden seal on a booty-ful day for the young athletes.
Hebden Sports was just one of the events whgere the fell runners had to tackle wet and slippery conditions.
The fell race at Malham Show presented the competitors with an even more punishing test than normal as the runners young and old made their bids for glory.
There was at least sunshine at Kilnsey on Tuesday to provide some relief for the runners.
