Rowell brothers shine as Haworth take title

Jamie Rowell played a key part in Haworth's triumph
Haworth are the new Division One champions after a 44-run win over second-places Crossflatts.
Jamie Rowell led the way with 85 as they made 212, then Damian Rowell took 4-45 as Crossflatts were bowled out for 168.
Fourth-placed Oakworth travelled to Embsay who were just one point above the relegation p;aces.
Oakworth were dismissed for 158 with Robert Hopkinson top scoring with 60 as Stephen Speak took 3-46.
The Shires Lane side secured their place in the top flight as they made 160-6 with skipper Dave Wellock making 36.
Airedale made a tremendous effort to save themselves from relegation but went down by nine runs over at Thornton.
Jonny Martin (51) and J Greenwood (45) put on 101 for the third wicket which helped the Booth Bridge Laners to 185 as Alan Hayes spun his way to 5-68.
Visiting skipper Nadeem Zaman threatened to snatch the game with a battling 44 but when he was bowled by Jack Laycock (4-52) the battle was lost and they were all out for 176.
Ingrow will be joining Airedale in Division Two next year after losing by 83 runs at Barrowford.
The top two in Division Two both won so the title decider goes to the last week.
Foulridge blasted a mammoth 270-4 with David Spokes (105) and Adam Dutton (104) putting on 195 for the third wicket as they beat Oakworth II by 155 runs.
Ingrow St John’s defeated Long Lee by two wickets.
Cowling move back into third spot after a seven-wicket win at home to Wilsden.
Steve Richardson took 4-39 and made 63 for Cowling.
Next to bottom Cononley beat Sutton to give themselves a lifeline.
Sutton were dismissed for 116, then Joel Grainger (50no) and Andrew Starkey (44no) took the home sides to the points by seven wickets.
The top two in Division Three, Denholme and Barrowford II went head to head with Barrowford winning by 21 runs.
Third placed Embsay II’s crashed by 190 runs at Haworth Road II.
The Baildon Bottom side thumped a formidable 279-5 then bowled the Shires Laners out for 89Skipton CI picked up three vital points as they strive to stay in the division.
John Drake took 8-48 as they beat Ingrow St John’s II by 42 runs.
Gargrave ’s Will Smith scored a superb 100no as his side beat Eldwick & Gilstead by 77 runs.
Division Four champions, Wilsden II, had a walk over when Cononley II were unable to raise a side.
How ironic that when their ground was fit for play, Eldwick & Gilstead couldn’t raise a side to play Division Five champions Pendle Forest II.
The second spot is between Chatburn II and Thornton II who are level on points.
The Ribble Valley side entertained Haworth WE II and going first made a modest 110.
The Bronte side were then dismissed for 109.
Thornton also featured in a close finish at Skipton CI.
The Sandylands side were hustled out for 48 as Mark Laycock took 4-1.
The visitors were 31-8, and then seasoned campaigner Mark Proctor (22no) and D Taylor (8no) got them over the line in the 27th over.
A Nawaz tried valiantly with the ball taking 7-20 in 11.
4 overs.
Sutton II were shot out for 59 by Denholme II who got home by seven wickets.
Gargrave II were unable to raise a team against Oakworth III.
Finally there was an exciting tie between Foulridge II and Cowling II.
Q Iqbal made 75 as the Noyna side scored 162 – this after being 23-5 – with M Bygrave taking 5-39.
In the reply Z Shafait made 46 as the overs ran out with the score on 162-5.
