Skipton suffer another away defeat
2:21pm Thursday 4th October 2012 in Sport By Warren Burnett
Ripon 16 Skipton 3
Skipton’s woes continued as they suffered another defeat despite a battling performance.
They also suffered two injury setbacks which didn’t help their cause on a beautiful day for rugby at Ripon where, sunshine and a strong breeze greeted the players. Skipton won the toss and elected to play with the wind in their favour and slope advantage.
After eight minutes Skipton had forged ahead with a penalty converted by scrum half Alex Baldwin.
But five minutes later following good work from the Ripon pack they were also awarded a penalty which was duly converted to make it 3-3.
Ripon were dominant in both the pack and the backs. This resulted in them securing a penalty but the kick was missed.
Skipton then had a setback when pack leader David Wellock suffered a shoulder injury and had to leave the field to be replaced by sub Ben Hall.
GSkipton suffered a further injury setback when centre Jacob Wright was concussed and could take no further part in the game.
Five minutes into the second half Ripon took the lead from a penalty.
This was turning out to be a fairly even contest but Ripon had a fortunate break and scored a try under the posts which was converted to extend their lead to 13-3.
Late in the game Ripon converted another penalty to make the final score 16-3.
Chris Sheehan and Chris Wright gave good performances with Ben Hall and Shaun Barroclough working tirelessly in the back row. Baldwin at scrum half did a fine job.
