Murray injury blow as Skipton are beaten by league leaders
Selby 43 Skipton 10
Taking on the unbeaten league leaders on their own patch was never going to be easy and the task became a whole lot tougher when Skipton found themselves 12-0 down after just six minutes.
Selby's three-quarters proved too quick to handle as they gave their Skipton counterparts a testing time.
Selby remained dominant but it took them a further 20 minutes to add to their score, when they ran in another unconverted try to extend their lead to 17-0.
An additional ten minutes of injury time saw Selby score twice more to make the half-time score 29-0.
The second half turned out to be a more even affair but again it was Selby who took the initiative with another two converted tries and with 15 minutes to go the score was 43-0.
But Skipton did not give in, they were awarded a penalty on the Selby 25 and elected to take a scrum which they duly won and after constant pressure on Selby's line captain Darren Howson scored a try.
With ten minutes to play Selby appeared to have given up and ill-discipline crept in. They had two players yellow carded.
Skipton's second try came through young winger James Akers, but the conversion failed. Skipton kept the pressure on Selby but could not score any more points.
Despite conceding 43 points this young Skipton side once again gave 100 per cent effort with props Simon Bygrave and Chris Wright giving good performances and the back row of Ben Hall, Tom Keady and Shaun Barraclough impressed as a unit.
In the backs Lee Shaw and Jonny Moore were the pick. Injury again struck and No8 Paddy Murray received a bad blow to his lower leg.
Skipton face another tough examination at home to Sheffield Meds on Saturday.
