Hall Green 2 Steeton 1

Under-par Steeton lost to a side who had only won two West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division games previously.

Hall Green took the lead as the visitors switched off to allow a free header from a cross.

Adam Spencer was unlucky to have a goal ruled out for offside, while goalkeeper Paul Linyard did well to block a clearance as Hall Green looked to ease their relegation worries.

The second half saw Steeton press as Spencer forced a great save from the keeper after a knockdown by Graham Holmes.

The home side doubled their lead following a ball over the top which Linyard read well but his clearance fell to a Hall Green player, who lobbed home.

Spencer pulled one back from close range and Steeton almost levelled when George Sellars’ diving header was just wide of the target.

l Steeton are on the lookout for a new shirt sponsor.

The Chevrons are ideally seeking a two-year deal and there is the opportunity for a local business to have their name on their kit when they play in the West Riding County Challenge Cup final at Elland Road next month.
