Silsden 4 Abbey Hey 1

THE Cobbydalers made a flying start to their North West Counties Premier Division season.

It could have been a victory by a bigger margin but the home side found visiting keeper Ross Hayward in fine form.

He could do nothing about Silsden’s opener though. It stemmed from a long clearance by Hayward’s opposite number Phil Rishton and it was finished by Dale Feather.

Ben Crabtree had the ball in the net soon after but was ruled offside. It was a brief respite for the visitors as young Cobbydalers’ centre back Josh Brown netted a brace of headers.

Brown nodded the home side into a 2-0 lead from Andy Hill’s 23rd-minute corner and when another Hill flag-kick was headed back into the danger zone he popped up again to convert.

That made it 3-1 as Jack Mason had profited from a poor defensive header to slot in from a tight angle between Brown’s strikes. The Cobbydalers put the gloss on their win when Zac Dale chased down a late through ball to add their fourth.
