Silsden Ladies 5 Republica Ladies 1

Silsden recorded their first points of the season with victory over Republica, who belied their lowly league position.

The Cobbydalers were off to a flier within three minutes when winger Chelsey Reynoldson found space following Diane Rutherford's pass to swing over a tantilising deep cross which sneaked under the bar.

Only brave goalkeeping and last-ditch defending denied Pearson, Laura Ackroyd, Stacey Wood and Harriet Brewer from putting the game to bed well before half-time.

The Leeds side's luck ran out just before the break however when Brewer latched on to a through ball from midfielder Wood to score a carbon copy of Silsden's first.

The second half was only ten minutes old when Wood fired a shot from 20 yards which the keeper fumbled into the net.

Further chances went begging for the home side with Brewer, Vicky Ellis and match player Sarah Betterton going close.

On 75 minutes Brewer sealed the points with the goal of the game when she picked up a pass from Brown to weave her way past defenders before finishing from an acute angle and, ten minutes from time, she completed her hat-trick when she slotted home a cross from Wood.

Republica never gave up and were rewarded with a goal two minutes later and almost doubled their score in the last minute but were denied by a good save by Fawell.

Silsden return to league action at Hebden Royd on November 16.
