Hebden Royd Ladies 1 Silsden Ladies 3

Silsden Ladies recorded their second league win of the campaign on Hebden Royd's big pitch but victory came at a price with injuries to three players.

The Cobbydalers forced the home defence on the back foot in the opening minutes with their direct play and it was no surprise when they took the lead on ten minutes when Harriet Brewer's corner was prodded home by Jane Newell at the back post.

Royd were struggling to clear their lines and, five minutes later, Laura Ackroyd notched her first goal with a firm shot following good work by match player Newell.

Silsden created further chances with Brewer, Ackroyd, Newell, Chelsey Reynoldson and Vicky Ellis all going close before Stacey Wood latched on to a through ball by Brewer to finish with a shot into the bottom corner.

This was to prove Brewer's last action as she limped off with an injury at the break to be replaced by sole substitute Claire Anderson.

Hebden Royd opened brightly in the second half and pulled a goal back on 50 minutes with a close-range finish despite keeper Megan Fawell getting a hand to the ball.

This seemed to spur on the home side and, for a brief period, with defender Rebecca Brown struggling with an injury, fellow defenders Kate Fawcett, Christina Aston and Diane Rutherford were being pushed to the limit.

The Cobbydalers asserted themselves again and should have sealed victory long before the final whistle as Newell and the now limping Reynoldson saw efforts flash the wrong side of the post.

This Sunday Silsden make the long journey to Brayton Belles Reserves in the second round of the League Cup with possibly a depleted line-up.
