Silsden 2, Maine Road 0

CHRIS Wademan struck either side of half-time to give Silsden back-to-back victories in the North West Counties League Premier Division and lift the Cobbydalers back up to ninth.

It was a regulation win over a Maine Road side in transition and put a three-point gap between the clubs.

The visitors’ Matthew Morgan sent in a superb free-kick in the second minute but none of his team-mates gambled and the delivery was wasted.

The set-piece was indicative of the Manchester club’s expectations and Silsden worked to wear them down.

Wademan broke from inside his own half to open the scoring. He was fouled as he raced into the area but managed to stay on his feet and was able to tuck a shot under the Mancunians’ keeper.

His second goal, eight minutes into the second half, was a race between him and the keeper to reach a Josh McNulty through ball. Wademan won the race and slid the ball home before either of the two retreating defenders could cut it out.

Cobbydalers boss Andy Geary brought his substitutes on as the game meandered to its conclusion.
