Hepworth Ladies 5 Silsden Ladies 0

Silsden Ladies made the 20 mile journey down the Pennines and were soundly beaten by Hepworth Ladies who thus maintained their unbeaten record.

Kicking down the slope in the first half the home team dominated the early exchanges against a depleted Cobbydalers line up and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 17 minutes, the home striker prodding the ball home from close range following a defensive error.

Three minutes later, Silsden found an uphill struggle on the cards when a loose ball fell kindly into the path of a Hepworth player who made no mistake from 10 yards out, Megan Fawell then made two good saves to keep the score respectable.

The Cobbydalers gradually began to push forward and the industrious Harriet Brewer (pictured) went close with a daisy-cutter from 18 yards that was inches wide, and Stacey Wood had a shot well saved by the home keeper.

However the home team asserted again and notched two further goals just before half-time, the last one a cracker from 18 yards out.

The uphill struggle in the first half seemed to have taken its toll as Silsden struggled to string passes together and 10 minutes after the break Hepworth add a fifth goal with a header from a corner.

A switch in formation soon after saw the Cobbeydalers gain more possession in midfield but without really threatening the home goal although strong appeals for a handball inside the home penalty area were turned down by the “unsighted” referee.

The tireless Brewer was awarded the match point but with another tough home game against high-flying Gledhow this Sunday, Silsden will be pushed to end 2014 on a high.

Keighley Oaks home game with Harrogate Railway in the Premier Division was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

They head to Hemsworth on Sunday.
