SUTTON have finally broken their duck.

After eight straight losses in Mastab's Craven League Division Two, they notched a shock 3-2 extra-time home win over Broomhill in the first round of the Division Two Cup.

Tom Hill and man of the match Patrick King were on target to earn sixth-placed Broomhill a 2-1 half-time lead but the basement boys, inspired by Lee Rooke, hit back with goals from Jamie Wilson, Barry Gummary and Lukasz Sarosinski to reach the quarter-finals.

The top two in the division were meeting in league action, and hosts Polonia and leaders Grassington United Reserves produced a thrilling 5-5 draw.

Damian Swies struck after 20 minutes for the Poles but he was overshadowed by the visitors’ Adam Steventon, who scored four times, Jan Ozdoba getting their other goal.

Polonia were 3-1 behind at half-time but recovered thanks to a hat-trick from Maciej Zoltek and a 70th-minute effort from Macilj Gawrydi. Polonia are level on points with United but have played three games more. FC Sporting Keighley are third after a 7-1 home victory over Skipton LMS Reserves, for whom Daniel Hunt was man of the match.

Rob Matthews-inspired Cross Hills remain top of the Premier Division after a 2-1 home win over Cononley Sports, for whom Lee Thompson netted, while Cowling Reserves won 3-0 at home to Barlick Wanderers in Division Three, Martyn Dalby being the winners' man of the match.

Bradley lost 8-3 at AFC Colne in a quarter-final of the Division One Cup. They trailed 3-0 at half-time and, despite a brace from Robert Watson and a goal from man of the match Tom Wilson, they conceded five more in the second half.

Their cause was not helped by own goals from Tom Rooke and Mariusz Skoczek.

Barnoldswick Barons went down 6-4 at Trawden Celtic Reserves in the Division Three Cup.

* Depleted Silsden Whitestar took West Yorkshire League Alliance Division Two leaders Horbury Town to extra-time before losing 3-1 in the third round of the West Riding County FA Sunday Trophy.

Whitestar were in good spirits on the mini-bus on the way over, and the game was end to end, with most of the possession in the home half.

Veteran Gary Lund occupied the in-form Sam Stanfield up front but it wasn’t enough to stop a world-class strike from 30 yards dipping over the visitors’ 6ft10 goalkeeper for the only goal of the first half.

Whitestar were full of confidence going into the second half, having shaded the first, and John J Berry and Ryan Utley were comfortable at the back.

Jack Kendall and Mark Bradley showed great pace on the flanks and, with two minutes of normal time to go, James Whitehead clipped in from a cross to chip the stretching goalkeeper.

In extra-time, Ben Ramsden hit the bar from 20 yards and Mark Bradley missed a sitter of a header from a yard out,.

It just wasn’t to be Whitestar's day as another 35-yard strike floated over their goalkeeper, who had stopped two one-on-ones and had kept the minnows in the game in extra-time.

The hosts added a third to give the scoreline a flattering look. Berry’s fierce aerial work and tackling earned him the man of the match honours.
