Steeton Reserves 1 Ventus Yeadon Celtic 1

Andy Foster's first game in charge of the reserves was against table toppers Ventus Yeadon.

The hosts were captained by Jack Ogalbe, who was making a rare start after a long absence through injury and welcomed back goalkeeper Paul Linyard, who came out of retirement to help out.

Steeton were missing several regulars who had stepped up to the first team but their youngsters were not overawed.

However, the visitors, who had already hit the post, took the lead on 26 minutes as Kyle Shah took advantage of confusion in the hosts' penalty area to toe-poke home.

Steeton created some good chances themselves but were just unable to penetrate a strong defence, Andrew Briggs and Lewis Robinson going close.

The second half almost got off to a flying start for Steeton when a superb cross by the overlapping Josh Ferguson was met with a diving header by Briggs but his magnificent effort went just wide.

At the other end, Linyard, who was the busier of the two goalkeepers, pushed the ball around post after a wonderful effort from the visiting number ten.

After 64 minutes, Briggs was replaced by Ross Bailey, who was to prove a thorn in Ventus' side, especially at set-pieces. Within a minute Steeton were level.

McGowan put over an inch-perfect cross which was met with a strong header from Ferguson, who had started the initial move, and his effort landed in the bottom corner of the net.

Celtic hit back as Morgan superbly headed the ball away from under the crossbar after a right-wing corner.

Steeton almost snatched a winner three minutes from time when a superb volley from Morgan brought an equally superb save from the Ventus goalkeeper.

To restrict the league leaders to just one goal when in their previous 13 games they had scored 54 was a marvellous achievement.
