Steeton 5 Tyersal 2

Steeton bounced back to winning ways with a convincing win over basement side Tyersal.

Lee Reilly's far post header went just over early on but the opening goal wasn’t long in coming. Ryan Cox did well to beat his man and hold the ball up for Mark McGee, who slammed home for the perfect start.

Cox almost doubled the lead but the keeper saved well and Andy Holden went close before the second goal came midway through the half. Skipper Michael Rhodes broke through from right back and was fouled in the box, leading scorer Lee Reilly confidently dispatching the spot-kick.

The lead was soon increased to three as McGee's low cross was diverted home by Reilly to effectively seal the game on the half-hour – or at least it should have done.

Steeton then lost the ball in midfield and failed to deal with the second ball as David Geddis nipped in to round Josh Brooksbank and put the Bradford side back in it.

The second half saw Steeton continue to press as debutant Toby Rawcliffe went close and Arley Barnes shot over with a long-range effort.

The visitors were right back in it when Jamie McEwan pounced on a loose ball from a corner and stabbed home.

Steeton missed the chance to restore their two-goal advantage as Cox was fouled in the box but Reilly blasted the penalty over the bar.

Josh Brooksbank then made an excellent double save as Tyersal threatened to level. Jack Richmond was brought on to shore up the Chevrons midfield and did well in driving the side forward.

Steeton's fourth goal came was slightly fortuitous as Holden's cross from the right floated over the keeper's head and nestled in the top corner.

New signing Trevor Harding came on and was unlucky not to add to the tally when he just failed to convert Sam Rooke's flick-on.

The home side sealed the game when Joe Park did well down the left and fed Reilly, who rounded the keeper for his hat-trick.

Steeton boss Roy Mason wants his side to show more of a killer instinct. He said: "At 3-0 we were coasting, but we took our foot off the gas and gave them a lifeline.

"We need to start becoming a little bit more ruthless in our play when we are in these positions. However, it's three points and moves us up to sixth in the table."

This Saturday, Steeton host Wilsden in the Keighley Cup semi-final (1.30pm).
