Silsden Ladies 1 Tingley Athletic Ladies 2

In their final home game of the season, Silsden succumbed to a late goal from promotion-chasing Tingley.

On a rock-hard pitch and with the wind behind them in the first half, Tingley dominated the early exchanges but couldn’t break through a solid home rearguard well marshalled by Rebecca Brown and match player Katie Fawcett.

However, the visitors opened the scoring on 18 minutes when a corner wasn’t cleared, the ball falling kindly into the path of a Tingley player, who made no mistake from six yards.

The Cobbydalers suffered further blows when influential midfielder Selina Steventon limped off and a hand injury to keeper Kate Perfect meant a switch with forward Stacey Wood.

Tingley failed to capitalise and the half closed with the Cobbydalers still very much in the game.

With the wind behind in the second half, Georgie Smith and Jane Newell were posing problems with their speed and trickery and the Cobbydalers deservedly drew level on the hour mark when Newell beat the offside trap to score from 12 yards out.

Smith and Newell both went close with efforts soon after but an injury to Smith, with no further subs available, meant that she had to limp through the last quarter of the game.

Tingley pushed forward in search of the winner but the Silsden defence held firm, with Wood pulling off a couple of good saves.

With two minutes remaining, and a draw looking on the cards, a cross from the wing took a wicked bounce away from Brown, the ball falling into the path of a Tingley player who made no mistake from close range.

Silsden travel to Altofts this Sunday for their final game of the season.
