JOHN Beckwith has scored eight goals and won man-of-the-match awards in both games as Settle United have marched into two Craven League cup finals.

First came the Premier Division Cup clash at Rolls last Thursday, which Settle won 5-2, with Beckwith bagging two and Matthew Cardus and Elliott Firth adding to a Chris Heald own goal.

Matthew Coates and Paul Oldroyd replied for Rolls, for whom Robert Greenwood picked up both gongs.

United will meet Trawden Celtic in the final tonight at Skipton Town’s Engine Shed Lane (6.30).

On Saturday, Settle were in an even more emphatic mood, despatching Division Two visitors Manningham All Stars 10-0 in the Northern Plant Hire Trophy, with Beckwith scoring six, Mark Loughlin two and Daniel Bathers and David Worthington making up the tally.

United will meet the winners of Saturday’s semi-final between Skipton LMS and Ingrow & Worth Valley, who claimed a third top-flight scalp when they beat Grassington United 2-1.

United wanted to play the full 90 minutes, whereas the Steampigs preferred 80 because of the late start and an evening kick-off, and it was therefore ironic that Ingrow’s goals came inside the final ten minutes! Tarek Issa had put United ahead with 20 minutes left.

Third-placed United also found time to win 5-0 at Cononley Sports in the Premier Division in what was the start of a three-game run in five days for Settle.

For once, Beckwith did not score, with the goals going to man of the match Shaun Airey (3), Luke Hepton and Ben Phillip.

Scott Newton-inspired Cross Hills won 3-2 at Skipton LMS and are six points ahead of Rolls, who have three games in hand, while the latter won 2-1 at home to Trawden Celtic, with Ben Harrison playing a key role.

David Greenwood was man of the match for Embsay in their 2-1 home defeat against Wilsden Athletic.

In Division One, leaders Silsden Whitestar profited from a walkover against Cononley Sports Reserves but they also won 3-1 at Pendle Renegades, with goals from Ben O’Melia, Sam Stanfield and James Whitehead.

Rolls Reserves triumphed 6-0 at home to next-to-bottom Bradley, Matthew Blackhall scoring four, with Chris Gaskell and Kevin Toland completing the tally, while Skipton Town drew 1-1 at AFC Colne, thanks to man-of-the-match John Bunnett.

In Division Two, Nick Breckon and man-of-the-match John Ozdoba were on target for fourth-placed Grassington United Reserves in their 4-2 defeat at home to Polonia, who are fifth.

Division Three leaders Carleton took another step towards the title with a 2-1 home win over Horton, Ashley Purnell and Ben Teal netting, while Stuart Gee was man of the match.

Shane Dwyer bagged a hat-trick for Skipton Town Reserves in their 6-1 victory at Cowling Reserves last Thursday, man of the match Naq Hussain and substitute Jesse Teiti also netting, while Martyn Dalby impressed as usual for the hosts.

Teiti (2), Dwyer and Jason Martin were Town’s marksmen on Saturday in their 4-0 victory at Sutton Reserves, for whom Joe Crummock shone.

Cross Hills Reserves profited from a walkover against Barlick Wanderers in Division Three but Robbie Smith’s fine play wasn’t enough for Bradley Reserves, who lost 2-1 at home to Horton.

Wanderers did field a team in their derby at Barnoldswick Barons but lost 2-0 to goals from Ricky Divito and man-of-the-match Luke Scothern, Tom Duerden getting the award for Wanderers.
