Horton 2 Ingleton 4

THERE was no fairy-tale ending to Horton's first Craven FA Morrison Cup final at Settle United on Friday evening but the underdogs did themselves proud with a spirited display.

They received strong support that helped create a wonderful atmosphere full of good banter and humour.

Understandably Ingleton had much of the early possession taking the lead on the quarter hour when man of the match Joe Towers scored the first goal of his hat-trick.

However the Horton team stuck to their task, never shirking a tackle, and were rewarded with equalising goal on the stroke of half-time when Danny Richardson coolly slotted home a penalty kick following a hand ball by an Ingleton defender.

Two early second half goals gave Ingleton control but Horton pulled a goal back when substitute Kyle Frik headed home a corner after 75 minutes.

The goal had the Horton fans whooping with delight but Ingleton clinched the cup with a fourth goal eight minutes from time.

The cup went to Ingleton but full credit to Horton. The night was a reward for l the dedication of long-serving secretary Ray Heaton and manager Steve Richardson and all those players and followers who have faithfully stood by the club.

Horton`s last hour of glory was back in the 1940s when they won the Division One League Cup after being one of the teams who helped to reform the Craven League in 1946 when they were members of the Craven Junior League.
