Barnoldswick Town 5 Eccleshill United 5 (Pens 7-6)

BARNOLDSWICK Town won a dramatic penalty shoot out to send the 2014 winners crashing out of this season's West Riding County Cup.

It came at the end of a tie that was quite literally raining goals. Town raced into a 3-0 lead with a hat-trick from John Beckwith but needed a late strike from Joe Gaughan to take the tie to spot kicks.

A much-changed Barnoldswick team saw Scott Gardner come into goal and included new 16-year-old on loan signing from AFC Fylde, Dalton Hutchison among the substitutes.

The game was played in heavy rain and Town stormed ahead with a second-minute goal from Beckwith. Liam Charles went close for Eccleshill before Beckwith shot home from the right of the penalty area in the 23rd minute.

Beckwith's completed his treble 14 minutes later when he fired home at the near post.

The visitors struck back two minutes later when Ashley Slater burst through two tackles inside the Town penalty area before squeezing the ball past Gardner at his near post.

Chris Ridehalgh missed a golden chance before Charles curled the ball into the bottom corner to make it 3-2 at half-time.

Eccleshill equalised through Brett Catley after 51 minutes but Town edged ahead again when Hutchison scored a minute after coming on as a 57th minute substitute.

Still Eccleshill refused to throw in the towel and goals from Adam Turner and Luke Harrop saw them go ahead for the first time.

This time it was Town who fought back with substitute Gaughan netting from Beckwith's cross.

The penalty shoot out was tense but a crucial save from Gardner saw Town through after Gaughan, Tom Henderson, Shaun Airey, Hutchison, Jake McEnearey, Martin Cavanagh and Billy Crawshaw all netted
