Barnoldswick Town 1 AFC Liverpool 1

MARK Threlfall's ninth North West Counties League Premier Division goal of the season earned Barnoldswick Town a point at the Silentnight Night Stadium on Saturday.

Liverpool started well and in the third minute Jonathan Swatton slipped Steve Jones in and goalkeeper Jordan Gidley was forced to save with his legs.

Town’s first attempt came in the 15th minute when a Carl Ellerton cross was headed wide by Threlfall at the far post.

Liverpool went ahead in the 21st minute when a long ball down the centre of the Town defence wasn’t cleared allowing Ryan Cox to race through on goal and slot the ball past Gidley.

Gidley was forced to make a smart save two minutes later from Cox before Town started to come more into the game.

Ben Gorman put Threlfall through on the corner of the penalty area but his curled shot flew past the far post.

There was a lucky let off for Town on the half hour when Matthew Williams missed his kick after Cox and Jones combined to create a clear opportunity.

Gorman tried his luck with a shot from just outside the penalty area which struck a post and rebounded to Threlfall who shot wide.

The second half started with Jones curling a shot just wide of Gidley’s while Joe Gaughan was unable to connect with an inviting cross from Threlfall.

Jones shot wide for Liverpool before Williams sliced wide.

Town made him pay for his miss as they equalised a minute later. Shaun Airey fooled the defence by jumping over the ball from Gorman's corner and Threlfall lashed the ball into the bottom corner of Jones’ net.

Town made two substitutions Dalton Hutchison replacing John Beckwith (75), and Thomas Henderson replacing Threlfall (80).

The Town pair combined with five minutes left, Hutchison crossing a perfect ball for Henderson who looked sure to turn the ball in until the Liverpool keeper saved at his feet.
