AFC Liverpool 3 Barnoldswick Town 6

STRIKER Matthew Simpson hit his first hat-trick for Barnoldswick Town as they came from behind three times to secure a North West Counties League Premier Division win at soggy Liverpool.

It's a result that will put them in good heart for their Boxing Day home clash with Silsden.

The home side made the early running and went ahead after ten minutes when Steve Jones netted with a fine 30-yard shot.

Jones and top scorer Ryan Cox went close to extending the lead before Town's top scorer Joe Gaughan rifled home through a crowded penalty area after Simpson had set up the chance.

Parity lasted just a minute. Cox broke clear for Liverpool and lobbed the advancing Jordan Gidley to make it 2-1.

Town made a bright start to the second half. Simpson and Gaughan both went close before the visitors equalised in the 56th minute. Simpson rose above three defenders the head down and past Garner for the equaliser.

Once again the response from Liverpool was swift. Barry netted to put the home side 3-2 up.

Barnoldswick didn't lose heart and equalised for the third time when John Beckwith and Gaughan created the chance for Simpson to score his second goal.

Town took the lead for the first time after 68 minutes when Beckwith cracked a low shot inside Dominic Garner's left-hand post.

Francis Barry then turned a cross from Gaughan into his own net to extend Town's lead with just under 15 minutes left.

Simpson made the game safe with seven minutes left. He broke clear on the Liverpool right and curled a great shot into the far top corner of Garner’s net.

A great win in the end, and must put the team into great heart for the Boxing Day visit of Silsden.
