Colne 4 Barnoldswick Town 0

JOE Gaughan, who netted 18 times for Barnoldswick Town before his transfer to Colne, scored twice to scupper his old club in Tuesday night's Premier Division clash.

Town made the early running with Ben Gorman firing a free kick straight at goalkeeper Nosakhare Aghayere in the Colne goal.

When Colne got into their stride, youngElliott Firth had to make a timely challenge to clear for a corner which George Melling headed just over Jordan Gidley’s crossbar.

Town immediately broke clear but Matthew Simpson dragged his shot past the left-hand post.

Christopher Anderson forced Gidley to make a save and then shot wide from the resulting corner.

Town responded with Simpson having a shot cleared for a corner and the unmarked Firth heading a corner over the bar.

Andrew Tinker shot wide and Jason Hart rattled the Town crossbar before Colne took the lead. Hart fired in a fierce cross which Gidley could only parry into the path of Simon Nangle who scored from close range.

Ben Gorman, Harry Thompson and Simpson all went close before half-time and Mark Threlfall flashed a cross across the face of goal at the start of the second half with nobody able to apply a finishing touch.

Play was switching from end to end and Colne 's Taylor forcing Gidley to save before having another shot cleared off the line.

Town also had a shot from Gorman kicked off the line before Colne extended their lead. Arley Barnes was harshly ruled to have handled the ball inside his own half. The free kick was hoisted into the penalty area where hart netted with an overhead kick.

Thompson missed a golden chance to cut the deficit when he failed to connect with a Simpson header and Colne responded with a third goal. Hart burst through and shot past the far post but the referee awarded a penalty which Gaughan drilled home.

Barnes curled a free kick wide before Colne made it four when Danny Boyle ran into the box and the ball ran free to Gaughan who smashed his shot past Gidley

The scoreline was tough on Town. They played their part in an entertaining game and suffered for not taking their chances.
