West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division: Salts 1 Steeton 1

A LATE Lee Reilly goal ensured a much-changed Steeton claimed a point at fifth-placed Salts.

The Chevrons were forced into making seven changes to the side that started in the cup semi-final win over Campion in midweek.

They couldn't have got off to a worse start when, in the first minute, referee Chan Renardson judged Michael Rhodes to have fouled his man, the visitors having expected the decision to go the other way.

From the resulting spot-kick, Joe Pleasance sent Sam Moore the wrong way to give Salts the lead.

The hosts twice went close to increasing their lead but a change in formation to a flat back four - to stop the home full backs overlapping - paid dividends as Steeton looked more solid.

Elliot Scott did well down the left and fed Reilly, whose shot was blocked. The Chevrons' best chance of the half saw Lee Thompson feed debutant Ben Clarkson, who beat the offside trap but his chip over the keeper landed just the wrong side of the bar.

Salts were denied what looked a perfectly good second goal just before half-time when they appeared to have bundled the ball in but the referee decided it hadn't crossed the line.

The second half saw more Steeton pressure and the returning Jack Richmond delivered a great ball into Kyle Fox, whose shot was well parried for a corner.

At the other end, Sam Moore did well to parry over from close range and he then saved well at his near post.

Steeton looked to have good claims for a penalty themselves when Clarkson was tripped in the box but the referee was unmoved again.

Steeton got their reward in the final minute when Richmond fed Fox, whose great cross saw Reilly fire home.

However, Steeton did have hearts in their mouths when Salts hit the outside of the post in the final minute.

On Saturday they entertain Halifax Irish and on Easter Monday they welcome Huddersfield YMCA. Both games kick off at 2.30pm.

Steeton: Moore, Rhodes, Mason, Fox, Pearson, Hird, A Holden (Richmond) Thompson, Reilly, Clarkson (Morrall), Scott.
