Silsden 3 AFC Blackpool 0

SILSDEN hauled themselves off the foot of the North West Counties Premier Division table with a morale-boosting home victory over fellow strugglers AFC Blackpool.

The Cobbydalers were a goal to the good at the break after Chris Wademan opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Andy Hill doubled the home side’s lead nine minutes into the second half and the game was over as a contest when Blackpool had a man sent off.

Silsden were worthy winners and added a third though substitute Nicky McNally five minutes from time.

Club official Jim Rosser said: “It was a good win and we could have scored more than three because we played well and created chances.

“But it wasn’t a great game as a spectacle. It was three points that could be important and we have another two home games to follow before an away game and then we end the season at home again.

“We are off the bottom, we’re one place up, but we have got a few of the sides up at the top end of the table to play. It is going to be a hard end of the season.”

The Cobbydalers are currently four points off fourth-from-bottom AFC Darwen.
