Barnoldswick Town 5 Atherton Collieries 1

BARNOLDSWICK signed off their season in style with a five-star showing against Atherton Collieries.

Town took the lead after seven minutes when Dalton Hutchison scored from just inside the penalty area.

Kristian Holt slid the ball wide at the far post from Andy Heald's free-kick as Atherton looked to respond.

Mark Threlfall screwed a shot wide after finding himself through on goal. But he made no mistake seven minutes before half-time with a curling into the top corner to make it 2-0.

Town were missing the services of John Beckwith, Matthew Cavanagh, Scott Moore, Carl Ellerton and Kieran and Liam Britton. But Matthew Simpson and Harry Thompson were back to bolster the ranks.

And it was Thompson who netted the third just after the hour after a spate of chances.

Town won a free-kick just inside Atherton's half and Thompson's effort beat keeper Kyle Haslam through a crowd of players - everybody missing it as it bounced into the net.

Threlfall struck again two minutes later as he muscled his way through the heart of the defence to chip over the advancing Haslam.

Simpson hit the bar before Thompson made it five as he slid home from Threlfall's low cross.

Atherton had the final say when James Kirby beat Jordan Gidley with a screamer but it was Town's day in their final game of the season.
