Barnoldswick Town 2 Dunston UTC 2
TOWN scored twice in the final ten minutes to earn a replay in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie at the SilentNight Stadium on Saturday.
Their Northern League opponents had gone ahead early in the game when Liam Thear’s shot was parried by Jordan Gidley and Oli Leedham turned the ball home.
Barnoldswick pressed for an equaliser and Harry Thompson fired in a shot that was deflected past a post.
Liam Blades tested keeper Mark Cook with a free kick before Malcolm Morien fired in a similar effort for Dunston which Gidley turned round a post.
Striker Joe Gaughan shot over the bar as Town pressed just before the half-time interval.
Barnoldswick thought they had equalised in the 54th minute when Mark Threlfall forced the ball home after a Harry Thompson shot was parried. Their joy was cut short as Threlfall was ruled offside.
With Town pressing, Dunston capitalised and extended their lead. Morien controlled the ball in the box and slipped it past his marker before shooting past Gidley.
James Luccock and Morien both went close for the visitors before Town struck back. Defender Michael Pearson was ruled to have handled in the box and Gaughan made no mistake from the spot.
New signing Johnny Hodgkinson, a recent capture from Colne, capped an impressive debut by setting up the equaliser. He ran half the length of the field before being tackled by Dan Smith who diverted the ball into the path of Aaron Hollindrake who netted with a fine shot from 20 yards.
Town, who have never progressed beyond the extra-preliminary round stage, went close to a winner in the closing stages when Ben Gorman headed wide.
