Silsden 0 Charnock Richard 1

SILSDEN failed to recapture the finishing power they had displayed in a 6-0 win on Saturday against a physically strong Mancunian outfit, who set their stall out from the off last night.

Keeper Callum Jakovlevs was called into early action, diving to his left to save Sam Parkinson's free-kick.

But in the 13th minute he lost his footing, causing him to parry Spencer Bibby's free-kick from 25 yards out, enabling visitors marksman Carl Grimshaw to gleefully smash home the rebound.

Silsden responded well but Will Storrie squandered an excellent opportunity created by Chris Wademan's defence-splitting through-ball.

Silsden battled hard to get back on terms but the well-drilled visitors held firm.

Nicky McNally had a snap shot saved by visiting keeper Adam Halton.

Charnock Richard almost added a second from a corner, a combination of Josh Eastwood's knee and the far post causing the ball to ricochet and nestle in Jakovlevs' grateful hands.

Silsden pressed late on, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the visitors, who were by this time well into 'game management' mode.

In the four minutes of added time following a ball in from the left, Eastwood lost his footing but, from the ground and with his back to goal, he hooked overhead, only to see his goal-bound effort deflect off a defender's knee in the crowded box and away for a corner.

Silsden travel to Prestwich Heys this Saturday as the games come thick and fast.
