West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division: Steeton 4 Golcar United 2

Another hugely entertaining game saw the Chevrons leapfrog the visitors into fourth spot.

On a perfect surface Steeton had a number of early efforts - from Ben Richardson and Lee Reilly in particular - which narrowly missed the target or were well saved.

However, the visitors proved more than able opponents and were unlucky not to take the lead in the 12th minute when a superb cross from was met by Simon Thompson, whose shot scraped the bar.

On the half-hour mark Reilly lofted the ball over the advancing keeper to notch his tenth goal of the season.

Golcar equalised just five minutes later when Thompson hit a rasping shot which Wayne Mahomet in the Steeton goal parried spectacularly but neither he nor a team-mate was able to prevent the ball from looping slowly into the net.

Steeton made it 2-1 a minute before the interval when a corner by Jonson Butterfield was cleared but only as far as left back Olly Hunter, who had moved to the right, and he lashed the ball home.

From the start of the second half the Steeton goal was under siege and only some desperate defending and goalkeeping kept the visitors at bay. Eventually this sustained pressure paid off when Golcar left back James Duncan rifled a half-volley into the net.

Steeton manager Roy Mason brought on new signing Alex Yates for Butterfield after 62 minutes and Ben Clarkson replaced Reilly in the 75th. A minute later a pin-point cross from the hard-working Tim Hird found Lee Thompson, who rose high above surrounding defenders to nod in and give Steeton the lead for the third time.

Golcar pushed forward but the hosts put the game to bed in the 83rd minute when Yates' glancing header from a corner found the net.

Steeton: Mahomet, Rhodes, Hunter (Rooke), Morgan, Fox, Hird, Holden, Thompson, Reilly (Clarkson), Richardson, Butterfield (Yates).
