Barnoldswick Town 1 Abbey Hey 1 (aet)

(4-3 on pens)

BARNOLDSWICK Town were spot on as they clinched their place in the last eight of the Macron Cup.

They triumphed 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after the game finished 1-1 after extra-time at the Silentnight Stadium.

Their reward is an away tie at Widnes where Town will be hoping to maintain their push for silverware.

The two goals both came in extra time. Striker Joe Gaughan fired Town ahead in the 100th minute when he netted with a cracking shot.

Gaughan’s second goal in successive games was cancelled out when George Noon rifled home another powerful shot six minutes later.

With neither side able to break the deadlock, the game went to penalties with Jonathan McGeachie firing home the decisive spot kick.

The two teams will meet again in the Premier Division on Saturday at Abbey Hey.

Striker Aaron Hollindrake has left Town to join Ramsbottom United who are managed by former Barlick player Paul Fildes.
