Pendle Renegades 2 Barnoldswick Town (EL) 2 (aet)

(pens 2-4)

SKIPPER Aidan McCusker produced an outstanding performance as Barnoldswick Town (EL) pulled off a shock win in the Craven & District FA Cup.

Twice the defender popped up with vital equalisers and crowned his afternoon's work by netting from the spot as his side won a penalty shoot-out 4-2.

There was little to choose between the sides in the first half as the young Town side acquitted themselves well.

Renegades started to gain the ascendancy in the second half and Adam Wormwell and McCusker were prominent as Town battled to keep them at bay.

Eventually the stubborn resistance was broken as Owen Pearson put Renegades ahead after 62 minutes.

This could have broken the young side's resolve but they battled away until McCusker left his defensive duties to rescue Town with a smart finish after Jake Hartley's shot was spilled by the home keeper.

Town found themselves trailing again when Slade netted in the tenth minute of extra time. Renegades continued to spurn chances to finish the match off and Town's task was made even more difficult as key players Bailey Coates and Jonathon Beech were sidelined by injuries.

It was looking like the home side had won the tie until McCusker scored a stunning half-volley from 20 yards, to take the game to a penalty shoot out.

Town's first four penalty takers all made no mistake while Renegades missed two of their spot kicks.

Town's youngsters had pulled off a surprise win.
