TWO goals in quick succession from defender Jonathan Hodgkinson saw Barnoldswick beat visitors Nelson 2-1 to win the Pendle derby last night.

The centre half struck twice on 21 and 33 minutes to put the West Craven side in control of the Hallmark Security League Premier Division clash.

Nelson came back into the game in the second half and pulled a goal back through a 20-yard free-kick by Jay Hart.

But Town held out and almost increased their lead when Aaron Hollindrake, who has returned on loan from Ramsbottom United, hit the post.

Victory lifted Barlick up to seventh from bottom and put 16 points between them and third-bottom Nelson, who have played three games more.

Kenny Taylor was in the Town line-up, having signed on loan from Colne.

Taylor was one of three players added to Danny Craig's squad last week along with Kieran Demaine from Padiham and Jake Lloyd from Nelson.

Craig said: ''These three players come with a very good pedigree and would improve any squad in the division.

''They fit the profile of player we want at this club perfectly. I've got a good squad here but I wouldn't want to miss out on good players that would improve it and these are three good players."
