CLEETHORPES Town emphatically underlined their domination of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division this season as they romped to a 6-1 win at Thackley.

The Dennyboys have had a very good season and are fourth but they were swept aside by leaders Cleethorpes.

The Owls took the lead in the first minute through Brody Robertson, and the game was won inside a seven-minute spell either side of the half- hour mark.

The visitors’ Liam Davis and Marc Cooper both scored before Peter Winn netted a penalty after Cooper was fouled in the area.

A 4-0 half-time lead was eaten into when Mike Garrod scored the Dennyboys’ goal just after the hour. But

Cleethorpes continued their positive approach and Cooper added his second before Andy Taylor wrapped up the scoring nine minutes from time.

The Owls held on to top spot with their win, remaining two points clear of second-placed Pickering Town, who beat Rainworth Miners' Welfare 4-0 last night.

However, Cleethorpes have three games in hand and are looking to seal the one automatic promotion place before they head to Wembley for the FA Vase final.

Liversedge also suffered a home defeat but their loss was harder to accept as second-from-bottom Parkgate took all three points away from Clayborn.

The relegation-threatened side had Chris Howard’s 58th-minute goal to thank for their priceless maximum.

The third local side in the NCEL top tier are in action tonight as Albion Sports welcome Retford United.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s men have been kicking their heels since their 4-1 victory at Bottesford Town a week last Saturday.

The sixth-placed club will be looking to make it back-to-back wins as they host basement boys Retford.

Silsden will be buoyant as they travel to Eccleshall in the lower tier of the Hallmark Security League after Danny Forrest’s side won at leaders Litherland REMYCA at the weekend.

The Cobbydalers would reach the 50-point barrier for the season with a win at Eccleshall before the second-from-bottom club make the return journey for the reverse fixture this weekend.
