STEETON are looking to reach the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup final for the second time in the last four seasons when they face West Yorkshire League side Boroughbridge at Fleet Lane, Woodlesford on Wednesday night.

Remarkably, the Chevrons have not had a home game in reaching the last four as all games have been on the road.

The last round saw them knock out current holders Beeston in their own backyard and their difficult route to the semis has also included trips to Littletown and Headingley.

After a couple of rebuilding seasons, Steeton have hit form again and manager Roy Mason paid tribute to the current crop of players.

He said: “The lads in the squad have been superb for me this season. The team spirit is one of the best that I have encountered in my time as a manager of this club.

"We have got a good mix of youth and experience and the work we have put in since July has resulted in us not only being in the last four of the County Cup, but also the League Cup.

"However it is vital that we go on and pick up silverware as we have been the bridesmaids on too many occasions over the past few seasons.”

Steeton go into the game in good form. Indeed, their recent 2-1 defeat to Lower Hopton is their only loss in 2017 and their good run should see them cement a place in the top four of the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division.

Steeton have players with County Cup winners' medals already in Andy Holden, Lee Reilly and skipper Michael Rhodes. They have won the competition with Silsden and were in the Steeton side that lost to Fields three years ago at Elland Road. Holden is particularly keen to lay that ghost to rest.

He said: “Personally for me it would help get over the heartache of the final at Elland Road as to win the County Cup four times in my career would be a very proud achievement. Wednesday will be a very tough game but I am sure that with the hard work we have put in and the coaching we receive it will be enough to get us through to the final.”

Leading scorer Reilly added: “I've had some fantastic seasons at Steeton and to win the County Cup this year would top off a great campaign personally after making my 200th appearance and scoring my 200th goal. This would be the icing on the cake.”

Skipper Rhodes believes this current crop is capable of going all the way. He said: “We have a good mix of youth and experience, with six of the squad already having the experience of our last County Cup final.

"However, we know that Boroughbridge will be tough opposition. You don’t get to the last four of this competition if your not a good side.”

Mason also thanked Paul Wintersgill from Wintersgill Associated, and Craig and Kathy Smith, landlord and landlady from the Goat's Head and the Boltmakers.

He said: “Paul has sponsored the supporters coach and this has resulted in us being able to offer discounted travel for supporters. Craig and Kathy continue to support the club and they have kindly sponsored the players bus.

"It would be great to see as many people make the journey, not only from Steeton but also from Keighley. There has been a lot of hard work gone into the club over the past few years and it would be fantastic to see a big crowd make the journey as they really can make a difference to the team."

The club still has a limited number of coach tickets left for the game. They are £4 each and are available from the Goat's Head pub in Steeton and Boltmakers Arms in Keighley, or from the club themselves. You can also contact Roy Mason via email: mason@steetonafc.co.uk

The game kicks off at 7:30pm and the admission is £3 for adults and £1 for children, which is pay on the day.
