SILSDEN boss Danny Forrest was impressed as his side came from a goal down to defeat Campion on Saturday.

Silsden's response cancelled out Lee Bradshaw's opener, with strikes from Joe Gaughan and Mark Trueman allowing them to lead at the break.

Despite another from Bradshaw, Nicky McNally and Niall Sultan then wrapped up the result in the second half, leaving Forrest delighted.

"We didn't start very well and just didn't seem to be at it," he admitted.

"We looked soft and Campion's start shook us. They were physical, strong and they were ready.

"I challenged my players to take responsibility and be leaders, and after we went a goal down I saw a lot of that.

"We took the game by the scruff of the neck, made sure we looked after our own performance, and it came together after that.

Forrest continued: "James (Bicknell, Campion manager) has a good set-up, a good set of lads and knows what he wants from his team – and his players are on the same page.

"I knew it would be tough for us to come away with a result against him, so I'm really pleased with it."

The win means Silsden take a positive result into a busy week, which continues with a trip to Thackley tonight.

Forrest's side will play host to Ilkley on Thursday before welcoming Albion Sports on Saturday, giving the manager chance to have a look at his players.

"We've got a squad of about 22 or 23, including a few trialists. I need everyone up to speed and to have a look at what we've got going forward," he said.

"I've got to make sure everyone gets the minutes they need and a crack at showing me what they've got."

When Silsden line up against Albion, it will mark three weeks until their seasonal opener against Sandbach – a time frame that will give players the incentive to impress.

It's not a trigger for Forrest to decide his season's aims though, which he says are already in the back of his mind – and that is where they will stay.

"We have got targets, but I'm not one for shouting them from the rooftops," he said.

"A progression on last year is the main aim, and if we can do that we'll have a good chance of the top eight – or more."

Forrest continued: "But it's such a long season. We'll have injuries and people going away – there's so many things that can affect what can happen – so I have my targets, but I want to keep them internal."
